  • Qualities of a good lawyer...

Welcome to Ryan mediation Law

We are here to help you with your legal issues, with a special focus on Mediation, Family Law, and Domestic Violence.

Principal Therese Ryan is a highly experienced legal practitioner with 15 years experience as a practicing Barrister, teacher and mediator.

Therese has chosen to wind down her practice as a Barrister, and now wishes to use her vast experience in helping people in need.

Therese Ryan has seen the struggle people go through when, often for the first time, they face the costs and stress of a legal dispute, and now she feels the time is right for her to able to help those facing the challenges of family law disputes, or those experiencing the heartbreak of domestic violence – and other situations where mediation may be the less stressful and costly way to reach a solution.

Therese is now also able to offer some pro bono services to people deemed to be in genuine hardship.

Pro bono is short for the Latin phrase ‘pro bono publico‘, which means “for the public good.” Pro bono legal work involves providing free support from a qualified law practitioner, rather than requiring cash remuneration, to those in need.

There is a long tradition of pro bono work in Australia, and Ryan Mediation Law has recently begun offering legal support for those in genuine need at crisis points in their life.

Empathy can aid a lawyer in building rapport with the client, thus fostering a more beneficial relationship; foster open and complete communication; and lead to more thorough legal analysis; and ultimately satisfy client expectations in a practical and compassionate manner.

No matter the legal situation, it’s important to have a compassionate lawyer who genuinely cares about winning your case.

But compassion and empathy alone are not enough to secure a just outcome – matters are judged “on the papers” and Therese prides herself on careful analysis and research, thorough and careful presentation of documents, and can back this up with 15 years experience “at the coalface” of the Justice System.
